The whys.

In 48 hours I will be on a plane headed towards Beijing.  I’m certainly exciting about spending the next three months in China, as this is tremendously exciting time to be there.  China, because of the upcoming Olympic Games, is under the world’s magnifying glass.  I’m excited to see all China is doing to put on a tremendous show, in terms of the actual Games and in terms of the diplomatic, public relations and human rights measures.  (I won’t judge if the measures taken are the right ones, or if they are effective enough, but rather merely recognize their existence.)

I’m also very interested in understanding more about the Chinese psyche.  In every country and culture in which I’ve been fortunate to live, I’ve most enjoyed learning about the mentality of people, which helps me understand the ‘whys’ of why one group of people do what they do.  From my very limited knowledge of the overarching Chinese mentality, I’ve gleamed that it is nothing like I’ve ever encountered, which is tremendously exciting.  From its 5000 years of cultural existence to its recent history of communistic control, I hope to understand more thoroughly how - as a country - China ticks.
